(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Mafraq, Feb.26 (Petra) - Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, on Wednesday inaugurated the first animal feed plant in King Hussein Bin Talal Development Area (KHBTDA) in Mafraq governorate, with a production capacity of 2,000 tonnes annually, covering 25% of the local market's needs.
Launched with support of the Agricultural Investment Incentive Program, the plant comes within the food industries axis of the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Hneifat noted the ministry supported 20 factories in all Jordan's sub-sectors, aimed to expand the front-end interventions of the agricultural sector, mainly food industries, which contribute to reducing imports and providing the product locally.
Hneifat noted these projects' added value in relation to production inputs, laborforce and local transportation.
Hneifat stated the ministry provided "full" support to most of the existing factories by providing infrastructure and operating costs for a 5-year period, in cooperation with industrial and development estates and municipalities.
Additionally, he noted the ministry's support for four KHBTDA -hosted factories and another in Sarhan district, referring to its efforts to protect products of the ministry-supported factories.
The ministry, he stated, seeks to expand the umbrella of investment in the Kingdom's agricultural sector by supporting agri-food industries.
Meanwhile, management of Pet Petra Company valued the ministry's efforts and support to its factory, which is launched today with 3 production lines of up to 6 tonnes per day of dry and soft feed and animal sweet products.
The company also stressed its keenness to "carefully" select ingredients, according to the "highest" international quality standards using the latest technologies, in cooperation with veterinary nutrition experts to provide balanced products that meet pets'needs.
