Sharana Residents Want City's Master Plan Implemented
SHARANA (Pajhwok): The residents of this capital city of southeastern Paktika province decry the lack of urban facilities in the city and want implementation of the city's master plan.
While complaining about narrow streets, roads and unpaved routes, lack of sewage canals and regular transport, they add the lack of electricity has exacerbated their problems.
Mohammad Akbar, a resident of Sharana city, told Pajhwok Afghan News the income of the municipality was not enough respond provide basic services to the residents.
He said the government should approve needed budget for the implementation of the city's master plan. Once the master plan is implemented, he believes, that development would provide facilities for the residents and traders and businessmen will invest in the city as well.
Mohammad Akbar said:“The city has only two main streets, we held meetings with the municipality officials on extending the city's five kilometers road to every side so residential areas are separated from business areas and people are also ready to build more business centres and more residential houses according to the city's master plan.”
Noor Mohammad, another resident, also complained about the small area of the city and lack of necessary facilities.
Due to the absence of a clear master plan, most parts of the city remain disputed among residents.
He issued a call on high ranking officials in Kabul to implement the master plan in order to end dispute among its dwellers.
Noor Mohammad said:“The foundation of this city was laid when Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan was president, and most of the land in this city remains problematic and disputed among the people. So all relevant government institutions must launch joint efforts for the master plan's implantation in order to provide facilities, pave the way for more investment and addressing problems.”
A number of other residents made similar comments about this matter.
Meanwhile, local officials confirmed the city was built on a small area which could not provide necessary facilities for the residents.
Deputy governor Makhdoom Abdul Salam Saadat said Sharana city was supposed to be expanded five kilometers at its four sides according the master plan.
Saadat said:“We implemented seven development projects in Sharana which consumed seven million afghanis and caused positive changes. The city would be expanded in near future according to its master plan by its municipality.”
This is while a number of residents also complained about what they called unplanned markets in the city which have been constructed against the municipality's law.
