Mahashivratri 2025: Traffic Restrictions In Place As Devotees Head To Offer Prayers In Prayagraj, Nashik, And More

(MENAFN- Live Mint) Mahashivratri 2025: As Mahashivratri is being celebrated across the country, traffic advisories have been issued by the police in various religious cities including Prayagraj, Nashik, Bhubaneshwar, Ayodhya.

Mahashivaratri, known as the night of Lord Shiva, is observed with great fervour in India. Generally, the Day of Mahashivaratri falls on every 13th night or 14th day of lunar-solar month according to the Lunar Calendar. Every temple of Lord Shiva today is flocked with pilgrims.

Traffic restrictions in Prayagraj

Devotees from across the country arrived in large numbers at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj in the early hours on the last 'Snan' of the Maha Kumbh, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri. Amid this, traffic restrictions are in palce and the entire mela area has been declared a 'no vehicle zone' from 4 pm on February 25. According to reports, authorities have made appeals to devotees to take a holy dip at the ghat nearest to them instead of crowding at the Sangam.

As per the advisory, those devotees coming from the Uttari Jhunsi route should go to Harishchandra Ghat and Old GT Ghat, and those from the Dakshini Jhunsi should use Arail Ghat.

A dip at Bharadwaj Ghat, Nagavasuki Ghat, Mori Ghat, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, and Hanuman Ghat has been advised for those devotees entering from Pande area.

Traffic restrictions in Nashik

Due to heavy crowds in Prayagraj, many devotees chose to visit Nashik, where they took a holy dip in the Godavari River (Nashik Gange) and offered prayers at the Shri Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple on Mahashivratri. In the city, traffic restrictions have been imposed around Sri Kapaleshwar Temple in Ramakund. According to reports, vehicles have been restricted from entering the Ramkund area from 5 am to 12 pm today.
