Torkham Border Closure Enters Fourth Day Amid Talks And Mounting Trade Disruptions

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham remains shut for the fourth consecutive day, bringing trade and travel activities to a standstill. Affected laborers, transporters, and customs clearing agents have called for the immediate reopening of the crossing.

Meanwhile, a meeting between Pakistan and Afghan security officials was held at Torkham Zero Point, where both sides presented their respective positions. Afghan border authorities requested time to consult with the Kabul government, raising expectations that another meeting may take place on Tuesday, though no official confirmation has been made.

Separately, a gathering of labor representatives was held at the park adjacent to Hamza Baba's shrine, where labor leader Hazrat Salam Shinwari and other elders reached a consensus. They announced plans to hold a peaceful rally on Wednesday, marching from the Said Jamal Tablighi Markaz in Landi Kotal to the Torkham border terminal. The protest aims to demand the swift reopening of the border.

The prolonged closure has left travelers on both sides stranded, while trade activities remain paralyzed, affecting imports and exports. Business groups have urged the government to take immediate steps to resolve the issue and restore normalcy at the key border crossing.
