GENEVA, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya headed on Monday the country's delegation to the 58th session of UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) held on Geneva on February 24-25.
Al-Yahya stressed Kuwait's keenness on, and respect of, human rights principles derived from the country's Constitution and religion that are compatible with the UN charters and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, citing Al-Yahya's speech.
Kuwait is eager to submit, and discuss, the national periodical reports as planned, he reiterated, noting that the country has established a national mechanism to follow and evaluate the guarantees of honoring its international commitments efficiently and effectively, according to the statement.
Kuwait is comprehensively reviewing most of the laws, including the ones related to women and youth affairs that aim to enhance and safeguard human rights, it pointed out.
Kuwait is ready to review its comprehensive periodical report before the UNHRC in May, he elaborated.
The world nowadays has a humanitarian and moral responsibility towards Palestinian people, he stated.
The Israeli occupation forces have been flagrantly violating humanitarian international law, the UN Charter and all UN resolutions, he said, referring to the ongoing occupation military operations on Gaza over months.
The minister called on the international community to bear its responsibilities and provide international protection to Palestinians and their inalienable rights.
He reiterated Kuwait's unwavering position regarding the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4 with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Al-Yahya underlined the need of respecting Syria's sovereignty in a manner that maintains its national institutions, calling for backing Lebanon to restore its stability and security.
He voiced Kuwait's condemnation of Israeli occupation forces' violation of Lebanon sovereignty, demanding the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territories. (end)
