NATO widens LANDCOM’s operational role in Izmir
(MENAFN) As Turkey celebrates the 73rd anniversary of its NATO enrolment, the NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) in a city on the Turkish Aegean coast called Izmir is widening its duties to fulfill variable security requirements.
First constituted in Izmir in 1952 as the Allied Land Forces Southeastern Europe Command, the unit experienced constructional variations, so it was renamed as LANDCOM in 2012. Nowadays, it takes an essential part in supervising NATO land forces' operational command in times of catastrophe as well as war.
acknowledging the changing of security landscape, NATO newly widened LANDCOM’s mandate in order to add the tasks of Combined Force Land Component Command (CFLCC) as well as Multicorps Land Component Command (MCLCC).
This change improves LANDCOM’s functional competencies, arranging it into a totally battle-ready headquarters.
