MECC Supports Scientific Research In Schools

DOHA The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has received a group of students from Umm Ma'bad Preparatory School.

The visit was part of preparing the students for scientific research that sheds light on 'the impact of the spread of the invasive Myna bird on biodiversity in the Qatari environment'.

The visit was held in cooperation with experts from the Ministry's Wildlife Development Department, to support the students in collecting field data and analyzing the environmental impacts of this invasive species, which is known to threaten local ecosystems.

During the meeting with specialists, the students discussed the research methodology and the most prominent environmental challenges caused by the Myna bird, which has spread remarkably in recent years at the expense of local species. They also learned about national efforts to monitor invasive species and maintain ecological balance.

Officials from the Wildlife Development Department stressed the importance of educational institutions cooperating with government agencies to enhance environmental awareness, stressing that supporting scientific research for young people is a pillar for building a generation capable of facing environmental challenges, especially in light of climate change and invasive species.

The research aims to monitor the repercussions of the spread of the Myna bird on biodiversity and to prepare applicable recommendations in partnership with the Ministry.
