Saudi Arabia Unveils $14.9 Billion AI Investment At LEAP 2025

Saudi Arabia has announced a substantial $14.9 billion investment in artificial intelligence during the LEAP 2025 technology conference in Riyadh. This move underscores the Kingdom's ambition to position itself as a global leader in digital innovation and aligns with its Vision 2030 objectives.

The announcement was made by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Swaha, who highlighted the nation's rapid growth in the tech sector. He noted that the tech workforce expanded from 150,000 in 2021 to 381,000 in 2024, reflecting Saudi Arabia's commitment to becoming a central hub for technological advancement.

Among the significant investments is a $1.5 billion partnership between U.S.-based AI firm Groq and Aramco Digital to establish the world's largest AI inferencing data center in Saudi Arabia. This facility aims to enhance operational excellence and support the Kingdom's digital transformation goals.

Alat, a company owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, has collaborated with Chinese tech giant Lenovo to create an advanced manufacturing and technology center focused on AI and robotics. Lenovo also announced plans to establish its regional headquarters in Riyadh, further cementing the city's status as a burgeoning tech hub.

In the realm of cloud computing, Google revealed plans to launch a global AI hub in Saudi Arabia to cater to regional and international demand. Tara Brady, Google's President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, stated that the company aims to contribute $70 billion to the Kingdom's economy over the next decade and train one million Saudi nationals in digital skills.

Other notable investments include:

– A $2 billion initiative by Alat and Lenovo to establish an advanced AI and robotics-based manufacturing and technology center in Saudi Arabia, along with Lenovo's regional headquarters in Riyadh.

– A $150 million investment by Tencent Cloud to establish its first cloud region in the Middle East, launching from Saudi Arabia with integrated AI capabilities.

These initiatives are designed to empower digital skills development, foster the growth of tech startups, and enhance innovation in Saudi Arabia. They further establish the Kingdom as a hub for technology and innovation, positioning it as an attractive environment for leading global technology companies and reinforcing its status as the largest digital economy in the Middle East and North Africa region.

LEAP 2025, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones, and Tahaluf Company, serves as a platform for these transformative announcements. The conference, running until February 12, brings together global technology leaders to discuss and shape the future of digital innovation.

Minister Al-Swaha emphasized that these significant investments and initiatives were made possible through the support and empowerment of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He stated that these efforts aim to enable the technology sector and accelerate Saudi Arabia's transition toward an innovative and sustainable AI-driven economy, in line with Vision 2030 objectives.
