Health, Fitness Activities Across Qatar As Nation Marks Sport Day Today

DOHA: Qatar celebrates the 2025 National Sport Day today with unwavering passion, encouraging people of all ages to get active, connect through sports and prioritise their well-being.

Having first celebrated National Sport Day in 2012, Qatar remains one of the few countries in the world to declare a national holiday dedicated to sports on the second Tuesday of February - a testament to the nation's enduring commitment to sports and community well-being.

Since its inception, the National Sport Day has steadily grown and this year promises to reach new heights with a diverse lineup of events.

Embracing the theme“Never Too Late,” the 2025 edition features hundreds of activities catering to all age groups. Entities across the country, including ministries, sports federations and private firms, are organising engaging events to promote fitness and community connection.

Beyond an array of events in Doha and Lusail, cities such as Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal and Al Khor will also be buzzing with sports activities with additional activations at Sealine. The Ministry of Municipality has completed preparations at Qatar's beaches to accommodate visitors for National Sport Day.

The beaches will feature sports fields, designated play zones for children and landscaped green spaces to provide a comfortable environment for the day's activities.

A major highlight of the day will be the inaugural Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Half Marathon 2025 set to take place at Lusail Boulevard. This eagerly-awaited event will bring together professional athletes and amateur runners from around the world, with participants from over 100 nationalities confirmed. The marathon features four categories ensuring accessibility for all age groups and fitness levels.

Races kick off early in the morning: the Half Marathon (21 km) starts at 6am, followed by the 10 km race at 7am, the 5 km run at 7:30am and the 1 km Fun Run at 8:30am. The QOC has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure a successful event.

“Our goal is to deliver an extraordinary edition of the QOC Half Marathon in the iconic Lusail Boulevard – a venue of immense historical significance that witnessed the unforgettable final moments of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This legacy will continue to inspire generations of Qataris, instilling a deep sense of pride for years to come,” said QOC Assistant Director of the Sport Events Department Salah Al Saadi in the lead-up to the event.

The Qatar Foundation will also organise several events with the Education City Run serving as one of its marquee activations. The race will include 10 km, 5 km, and 3 km contests for adults while two junior races of 3 km and 800 meters for children will also be held, with a large number of participants expected to take part.

The Old Doha Port will also come alive with a variety of activities designed for families and sports enthusiasts. In collaboration with key ministries and national organisations, the programme will include public sports activations, open-water activities such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, interactive games and workshops focused on fitness and sustainability.
