Piyush Goyal To Inaugurate EFTA Desk In Delhi, Boosting Economic Cooperation

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 10 (KNN) Union Minister for Commerce and industry Piyush Goyal and senior representatives from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will inaugurate a dedicated EFTA Desk at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on February 10, 2025.

The establishment of this desk follows the signing of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) on March 10, 2024, and aligns with Chapter 7 of the agreement.

The initiative aims to strengthen economic ties between India and the four EFTA member states-Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

Senior officials from India's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and the Department of Commerce will present the country's strategic vision for enhanced economic cooperation with EFTA nations during the inauguration ceremony.

The new desk will serve as a comprehensive support centre for EFTA companies seeking to establish or expand their presence in India.

Its services will include providing market intelligence, regulatory guidance, business matchmaking opportunities, and assistance in understanding India's policy framework and investment landscape.

Following the inauguration, an EFTA-India Business Roundtable will bring together more than 100 prominent businesses from both regions.

The roundtable will focus on fostering partnerships across several key sectors, including pharmaceuticals and life sciences, financial services and fintech, mechanical and electrical engineering, energy and sustainability, seafood and maritime industries, and food processing and agritech.

This platform will enable companies to explore potential joint ventures, investment opportunities, and technology partnerships within the TEPA framework.

The EFTA delegation includes Swiss State Secretary Helene Budliger Artieda, Norwegian State Secretary of Trade and Industry Tomas Norvoll, Icelandic Permanent Secretary of State Martin Eyjolfsson, and Liechtenstein's Minister of External Affairs, Education, and Sport Dominique Hasler, along with key EFTA Secretariat officials.
