Rolls-Royce Plans To Double Indian Supply Chain Sourcing By 2029

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 10 (KNN) Rolls-Royce announced plans on Monday to double its supply chain sourcing from India within the next five years, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the South Asian nation.

The aerospace giant aims to increase procurement of complex components for its advanced aerospace engines, naval propulsion systems, diesel engines, and gas turbine engines, strengthening its position in India's defence sector.

The company currently sources high-precision parts and engine components for its civil aerospace, defence, and power systems businesses from various Indian partners, though specific financial details of these arrangements remain undisclosed.

This strategic expansion aligns with India's 'Make in India for the world' initiative, according to Rolls-Royce Chief Transformation Officer Nicola Grady-Smith, who highlighted India's emergence as a preferred global sourcing hub.

Over the years, Rolls-Royce has established a comprehensive ecosystem in India, encompassing strategic partnerships, engineering capabilities, service delivery, and manufacturing facilities.

The company has successfully transferred technology for licensed production of various defence engines and now seeks to enhance relationships with both existing and potential Indian suppliers to develop local manufacturing capabilities for complex engine components destined for global markets.

Alex Zino, Executive VP for Business Development and Future Programmes, Rolls-Royce Defence, emphasised India's crucial role in the company's long-term strategy.

He noted that strengthening the supply chain and enhancing ecosystem capabilities would create a foundation for future co-production opportunities while supporting India's ambition to become a self-reliant defence powerhouse.

The company maintains joint ventures with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and Force Motors, alongside established relationships with major Indian industrial houses including Tata, Bharat Forge, and Godrej & Boyce.

Rolls-Royce's commitment to India is further demonstrated by its workforce of over 2,000 highly skilled engineers, employed both directly and through outsourcing agreements, who contribute to global development programmes.

The company remains focused on participating in co-development opportunities for critical combat engine technologies while serving the needs of India's armed forces.
