Challenges Facing Syria's Rebuilding Two Months After Assad's Fall

(MENAFN) Two months have passed since the dramatic collapse of Bashar Assad's regime, and Syria now stands at a critical turning point. Having endured years of devastating conflict, the country now faces the enormous task of rebuilding politically, economically, and socially.

On December 8, 2024, Assad fled to Russia, marking the end of the Baath Party's nearly six-decade-long authoritarian rule. His departure followed the successful overthrow of the Regime by rebel forces led by the current Syrian President, Ahmad al-Sharaa.

Despite Assad’s ouster, Syria remains fragile. The wounds of war are profound, and the road to stability is full of serious obstacles, including economic ruin, political disarray, and the necessity of pursuing transitional justice.

As the transitional government works to address these challenges, experts stress that the upcoming months will be pivotal in shaping Syria's future.

“Two months ago, they got control of a state that has a lot of challenges, and they have a lot to do,” said Nanar Hawach, a senior analyst for Syria at the International Crisis Group, in an interview with Anadolu.
