Doha: Al Markhiya Gallery's new group exhibition“Telling Tales: a visual reading of a literary text” will open at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Wednesday. The exhibition will run until the end of March and will examine the complex relationship between literary texts and visual narrative.

With pieces by artists Lina Alaali (Qatar), Reem Al Askari (Palestine), Salem Mathkour (Iraq), and Hassan Manasra (Jordan), the exhibition focuses on the visual manifestation of literary and personal narrative.

Using a range of creative techniques, artists translate the power of narrative into engrossing visual narratives. Along with changing our relationship with tales and reality, the exhibition also examines how literature and personal narratives shape visual impressions and link memory to emotion and imagination.

The exhibition explores the myriad ways that stories are embodied, whether in writing or drawing, to bridge the gaps between visual expression and words. It does this by highlighting a world where narrative transcends language through symbolic expressive schools.
