Russia repels Ukrainian assault in Kursk Area
(MENAFN) On Thursday, the Russian military successfully repelled a significant Ukrainian attack in the Kursk Region, specifically targeting Russian positions southeast of the town of Sudzha, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The attack involved up to two mechanized battalions, equipped with numerous armored vehicles, focusing on the villages of Ulanok and Cherkasskya Konopelka, located about 9km southeast of Sudzha.
Ukrainian forces launched their assault in several waves but failed to capture the settlements, with the Russian military reporting the destruction of at least six tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, three assault breachers, and 14 other armored vehicles. However, the Russian military did not provide an estimate of Ukrainian personnel losses in the attack.
Videos circulating online show large Ukrainian convoys advancing with tanks, engineering vehicles, and other armor, only to be repeatedly struck by fiber optic-guided drones. The drone strikes disabled or destroyed several of the vehicles. The Russian Defense Ministry also released a short video highlighting FPV drone attacks on Ukrainian armor during the failed offensive.
Since Kiev's invasion of the Kursk Region in August, Ukrainian forces have faced significant setbacks, with Moscow recapturing much of the territory. Despite this, Ukrainian forces continue their attempts to push further into Russian-held areas. According to the latest estimates from Moscow, Ukraine has suffered heavy casualties, with over 58,000 servicemen killed or wounded, along with the destruction of numerous military vehicles, including more than 330 tanks.
