Richard Medhurst Detained by Austrian Authorities Over Terrorism Allegations

(MENAFN) Richard Medhurst, a British journalist recognized for his outspoken pro-Palestinian views, recently revealed that he was briefly detained by Austrian officials on suspicion of being linked to a terrorist group. This incident follows a similar situation in August when he was apprehended by British police.

Medhurst, who is based in Austria, shared a video on his X account on Friday in which he described how he had been “lured into a trap” when he was called in for an interview with the authorities last week. Upon arriving, the officials informed him that they were considering revoking his residency due to his reporting on Gaza and Lebanon.

According to Medhurst, he was then “ambushed by a group of plainclothes agents,” who identified themselves as the Austrian equivalent of MI5 or the FBI. He was detained and served with a search warrant, with the authorities accusing him of being a member of Hamas and of “disseminating propaganda [and] encouraging terrorism.” The authorities proceeded to search his apartment and studio, seizing all of his electronic devices.
