Aqaba Welcomes Historic Visit Of Italian Navy Ship Amerigo Vespucci

Aqaba, Feb. 6 (Petra) – The beaches of Aqaba city welcomed the historic training sailing ship of the Italian Navy, Amerigo Vespucci, on Thursday as part of its global tour, marking its first visit to Jordan.
The ship's stop in Aqaba is the 34th of its journey before returning to the Mediterranean Sea.
The official reception ceremony was attended by Hamza Hajj Hassan, Deputy Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Aqaba Governor Khaled Hajjaj, Italian Ambassador to Jordan Luciano Pezzotti, Commander of the Royal Navy in Aqaba Colonel Hisham Jarrah, and various government officials.
Hajj Hassan highlighted the significance of the ship's visit in strengthening the relation between Jordan and Italy, noting that the ship would open its doors to the public on Friday, offering an opportunity to learn about Italian history and culture. He emphasized the importance of such events in attracting tourism and investment to Aqaba, particularly from European countries.
Pezzotti described Amerigo Vespucci as a symbol of Italy's maritime traditions for over 90 years. He explained that the ship combines officer training with promoting the excellence of "Made in Italy," serving as a representation of the Italian Navy's legacy.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception the crew received, underscoring the strong ties between Italy and Jordan.
