Amman, Feb. 6 (Petra)-- The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), yesterday, said that in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Jordan Armed Forces(JAF)-Arab Army- and the Logistics Cluster, a relief convoy consisting of over 80 trucks carrying life-saving shelter supplies had been sent to the Gaza Strip.
With 49,200 tarpaulin pieces and 5,430 desperately needed family tents, the convoy will immediately aid an estimated 300,500 displaced people.
One of the most urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza is shelter, which is especially important for children, the elderly, and other vulnerable populations, the organization said in a press release, yesterday. The situation of almost 500,000 Palestinians who have returned to the north to discover their homes in ruins is made worse by the terrible lack of shelter and the bitterly cold winter.
"To support those who have returned to northern Gaza, it is imperative that shelter supplies be delivered on time and without interruption," stated Karl Baker, the Regional Crisis Coordinator for IOM.
The convoy is part of the continuous efforts to improve the humanitarian response and lessen the suffering of our people in Gaza, Hussein Al-Shabli, Secretary-General of JHCO, emphasized.
