KSA responds to Trump`s Gaza ’take over’ strategy
(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia has strongly rejected any efforts to displace Palestinians from their land, reaffirming its "firm and unwavering" commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state. This statement came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal for an American takeover of Gaza, announced during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Trump suggested that the U.S. could assume control of Gaza, clear the remnants of damaged buildings, and transform the region into the "Riviera of the Middle East." He also advocated for the permanent resettlement of Palestinians outside Gaza. While Saudi Arabia did not directly address Trump’s remarks, its Foreign Ministry emphasized its "unequivocal rejection" of any actions that infringe on Palestinian rights, including Israeli settlement policies, land annexation, and displacement.
The statement further asserted that "permanent peace" could only be achieved if Palestinians secure their right to statehood, calling for international recognition of a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Saudi Arabia made it clear that it would not establish relations with Israel unless this condition was met, describing its position on Palestinian rights as "non-negotiable."
Trump's plan, which involves relocating Gaza's two million residents to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, has been met with widespread criticism. Human rights organizations have condemned the proposal, labeling it as ethnic cleansing. Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour also rejected the idea, suggesting instead that Palestinians should be allowed to return to their original homes in Israel. The ongoing violence has caused significant casualties in Gaza, with over 47,500 Palestinians killed and 111,500 wounded in the 15 months of Israeli attacks.
