Voter Turnout In Delhi Assembly Polls Tops 57.89 Pct As BJP Predicted To Win
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
NEW DELHI, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- Nearly 57.89 percent of 1,561,000 registered voters cast their ballots in the assembly elections of Delhi on Wednesday.
Bharatiya Janata Party (PJP), of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is poised to come to power, according to exit polls and data from Election Commission of India.
Voters elect 70 members of Legislative Assembly to rule Delhi for the next five years.
The right-wing BJP is striving to unseat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of Arvind Kejriwal who emerged as a crusader against corruption in the Indian Political landscape.
However, Kejriwal came under allegations of corruption and was forced to resign as Delhi Chief Minister after he was jailed after detained by the central investigation agencies.
The AAP had won 62 seats in the last Assembly Elections held in 2020 while the BJP won just eight seats. In 2015, the AAP had won 67 seats after it became a state party in Delhi in 2013.
Several exit polls conducted by credible agencies said that BJP is poised to come to power after a gap of 27 years.
Delhi is facing several issues including pollution, corruption, issues of health, electricity and water. The BJP, AAP and Congress promised to resolve these problems and take Delhi on a new path. (end)
