Russia’s top MP gives message from Putin to Indian leader
(MENAFN) Vyacheslav Volodin, the Speaker of the Russian State Duma, delivered a message from President Vladimir Putin to Indian President Droupadi Murmu during his official visit to India. The discussions between Russian and Indian officials highlighted the strong bilateral ties and emphasized the need for further cooperation. Volodin reiterated that strengthening relations with India remains a key priority in Russia’s foreign policy.
Putin is expected to visit India later this year for a summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, though the exact dates are yet to be announced. Volodin described the relationship between Russia and India as based on friendship, trust, and mutual respect. He also expressed gratitude for India's continued support and praised the countries’ privileged strategic partnership.
Volodin's visit, which was initiated by Indian parliament speaker Om Birla, also included meetings with members of India's parliament, where the importance of legislative exchanges was underscored. Volodin emphasized that expanding parliamentary dialogue would further strengthen trade, humanitarian ties, and cooperation.
Indian President Murmu welcomed the Russian delegation, highlighting the positive impact of frequent interactions between the leaders of the two countries. Prime Minister Modi had invited Putin to visit India for their next bilateral summit during the BRICS meeting in Kazan last year. Since 2000, the two nations have held annual summits, formalizing their relationship as a 'special and privileged strategic partnership' in 2010.
