Massive Fire Breaks Out At Chemical Factory In Hyderabad's Cherlapalli - Watch Video
Visuals shared online showed factory staffers and other people in the area fleeing the site as the fire spread rapidly. Flames billowed out of the windows and the roof of the Shesha Sai chemical factory building while thick black smoke enveloped the entire area.
Efforts remain underway to ascertain the cause of the fire and an investigation has since been launched into the matter. Details about property loss or injuries remains unclear. Reports citing locals indicate that many have complained about a choked feeling as black smoke lingers in the air.
According to a report by Telangana Today, the fire started around 6:00 pm following an explosion in the factory. Authorities cordoned off the area after the blaze began as locals began evacuating from their houses out of fear that the flames would spread. At least six fire tenders were pressed into operation as multiple explosions - from chemical barrels stored inside the factory - hindered efforts to combat the blaze.
Updates shared in an India TV report also add that the fire spread to the adjacent Mahalaxmi Rubber Company - causing chemical contamination throughout the area.
The accident has also caused traffic jams as the police were forced to close roads and divert vehicles. According to an ETV Bharat report, the road to the Hindustan Cable and the Cherlapalli railway station was closed remained closed on Tuesday evening.
