Russian LNG shipments reach new record

(MENAFN) Russia set a new record in LNG exports, shipping 33.6 million tons in 2024, surpassing the previous year's record of 32.9 million tons, according to data from analytics firm Kpler. The record was bolstered by a strong December performance, with exports rising 14% from the previous month. More than half of Russia's LNG exports went to the EU, totaling approximately 17.4 million tons, a 4% increase over 2023. Despite EU sanctions aimed at reducing dependence on Russian energy, countries such as France, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands remained significant buyers.

Most of Russia’s LNG exports came from the Yamal LNG facility, which contributed 21.1 million tons, a 6% increase over the previous year. Exports from the Sakhalin-2 facility declined by 3.1% to 9.9 million tons, while shipments from Vysotsk rose by 3.4% to 2.31 million tons. Russia also saw an uptick in exports to Asian markets, with China leading as the top buyer. Despite EU efforts to curb reliance on Russian energy, the country’s LNG market remains competitive, with significant demand from both European and Asian buyers.
