Over 2,200 Students Participate In Schools Robotics Championship

Doha: Over 2,200 students, forming more than 800 teams, from 227 public and private schools are participating in the 17th edition of the Schools Robotics Championship, which commenced yesterday at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Sports and Youth in collaboration with the Qatar Scientific Club and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), and will span three days.

The opening ceremony was attended by Eng Yasser bin Abdullah Al Jamal, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, alongside several distinguished officials.

Notable attendees included the Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at MoEHE Maha bint Zayed Al Ruwaili; the President of the National Cybersecurity Agency H E Abdulrahman Al Malki; the President of Arab Society for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Ismail Yassin, and other dignitaries.

The Qatar Scientific Club is committed to delivering a unique iteration of the tournament by implementing innovative updates in organisation and competition formats. This year's event features significant contests, including the Open Innovation Competition, the Robot Arm Challenge, the Football and Drone Competition, Discovery and Explorer, the FLL Robot Challenge, Line Tracking, Ball Collector, and Sumo. Additionally, a new competition, the Diving Robot Competition, has been introduced this year. All competitions are recognised either on a global scale, within Arab nations, or as local contests, adhering to specific criteria and conditions for participation across all educational levels.

Al Jamal stressed the Ministry's keenness to support such events that contribute to empowering students in the fields of modern science and technology that are in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

He praised the distinguished level shown by the students during their competitions in the championship.“Qatar pays great attention to developing the skills of young people in the fields of science and technology. These efforts are positively reflected in the quality of Qatari participation in international scientific forums,” Al Jamal added.

Al Ruwaili emphasised that the Schools Robotics Championship stands as a premier educational initiative that aligns with the objectives of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in fostering students' competencies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This event transcends mere competition; it serves as a vital platform for enhancing critical and creative thinking, promoting teamwork and leadership skills, and encouraging innovation, all in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030.

She further remarked that the impressive participation of over 2,200 students, both male and female, from various public and private schools, signifies a growing recognition among students of the significance of technology and its impact on their future.

Additionally, the championship broadens competitive opportunities at both regional and international levels, underscoring the potential of our youth to achieve excellence on a global stage.

Executive Director of the Qatar Scientific Club and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Championship, Engineer Rashid Al Rahimi, said that the championship has been dedicated, since its inception to cultivating a generation prepared to excel in future domains that depend on advanced technology, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The objective of this championship is to foster creativity and innovation among students, ensuring they are well-equipped to adapt to a world characterised by ongoing technological advancements.

In parallel with the championship, the Scientific Exhibition for Research and Innovations is organised for the youth category, which includes projects supervised by the Qatar Scientific Club that qualified for advanced positions, in addition to displaying robots and technical innovations developed within the work team and innovators at the Scientific Club.
