Syrians celebrate liberation, refuse Assad regime as life returns to normal in Hama
(MENAFN) Life has begun to return to normal in Syria's Hama province, which was recently captured by the groups that overthrew the Baath regime. Following the liberation of the city, residents of Hama, who expressed strong support for the groups that freed them from the fallen regime, saw the resumption of essential services, including bread distribution in the city center.
With the return of normalcy, the local police force resumed its duties, and the streets of Hama were cleared of debris. The remnants of the Baathist regime, such as abandoned tanks, are still visible throughout the city. People of Hama removed posters of Bashar al-Assad and his late father, Hafez al-Assad, as a symbol of their rejection of the old regime.
The residents celebrated their liberation with enthusiastic demonstrations, chanting slogans against Assad and his family. Maher Al Masry, a local resident, shared his joy over the city's liberation in an interview with Anadolu, expressing his anger at the oppressive rule of Bashar al-Assad. Masry accused Assad of following in his father’s footsteps by subjecting the people of Syria to suffering, persecution, and brutal treatment. He described how the Syrian army, instead of protecting civilians, inflicted destruction and death upon them, particularly by targeting women and children with bombings.
Masry also noted the lack of basic services in Hama during Assad's rule, including unpaved streets, frequent power outages, and rampant corruption. Despite the atrocities committed by the fallen regime, he expressed optimism for the future, particularly for the youth of Syria, believing that a better future is possible after the collapse of the cruel regime.
