Iran, Türkiye make significant efforts to reach USD30 billion in bilateral trade volume
(MENAFN) Iran and Türkiye are making significant efforts to reach a target of USD30 billion in bilateral trade, according to Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, who spoke on Wednesday. Bolat made the remarks after a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit to Tehran for the 29th Meeting of the Türkiye-Iran Joint Economic Cooperation Commission. Bolat emphasized Türkiye's desire to renew its energy agreement with Iran, reflecting the growing cooperation between the two nations in the energy sector.
In his statement, Bolat also highlighted plans to modernize border gates to streamline customs trade between the two countries. He mentioned that Türkiye is working on opening two additional border gates with Iran, which would further facilitate trade and strengthen cross-border relations. Additionally, both sides are focused on enhancing the border crossings and local markets, aiming to boost bilateral economic exchanges.
Furthermore, Bolat expressed Türkiye's intention to revive the preferential trade agreement that was initially signed with Iran in 2015. This agreement, along with plans for a comprehensive tourism cooperation deal, is seen as a way to deepen the economic ties and encourage tourism exchanges between the two nations.
In response, President Pezeshkian stressed the importance of strengthening relations between Islamic countries. He noted that in his discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they highlighted the necessity of solving issues in a brotherly manner and working to enhance the collective strength of the Islamic world. Pezeshkian emphasized that Islamic countries stand to benefit greatly from sharing their resources and capacities, particularly in trade markets, transportation routes, and other areas of mutual interest.
