European Weightlifting Academy To Open In Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani weightlifting has achieved a historic success, Azernews reports.

The candidacy for opening the European Weightlifting Academy in Azerbaijan was met with great interest at the regular congress of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) held in Bahrain.

At the event, which was attended by Azerbaijan Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mariana Vasileva, President of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation Kamran Nabizade and Vice-President Firdovsi Umudov, as well as the representative of the federation Turab Teymurov made a presentation.

During the presentation, the congress participants were provided with information about the Azerbaijani history, tourism potential, extensive infrastructure opportunities, extensive experience in organizing international events, sports achievements, as well as the attention and care of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to sports at the state level, a special video was shown.

The President of the International Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Jaloud and other officials emphasized the attention paid to sports in Azerbaijan and wished success to the Academy.

The European Weightlifting Academy will host international coaching courses, seminars and lectures on licensing, as well as relevant classes for judges, athletes, training in categories and specialties.

The Academy will be taught by representatives from Europe and, if necessary, specialists from neighboring countries. It is expected that the Academy will be located at the ASK Arena in Baku.

There will be only five such Weightlifting Academies in the world. Along with Azerbaijan, this right is held by China in Asia, Egypt in Africa, Cuba in America and Samoa in Oceania.

In addition, the congress heard reports from individual committees of the International Weightlifting Federation, and presentations by commercial partners were held. The proposed changes to the IWF constitution were adopted following a vote.
