Dubai attracts 119,000 new business licenses
(MENAFN) The free and investment zones in Dubai attracted 23,000 new commercial licenses throughout the year, increasing the total cumulative balance of registered licenses by 24 percent. by the end of January 2025, the total number of licenses had reached 119,000, compared to 95,000 during the same period in 2024. this growth highlights the emirate’s appeal as a business hub and its ability to attract investors.
Dubai’s free zones accounted for approximately 55 percent of the total cumulative balance of free zone licenses in the UAE. according to the economic register, the total number of free zone licenses across the country reached 218,000 by the end of January 2025. this significant share underscores Dubai’s leading role in the country’s economic landscape, benefiting from its strategic location and investor-friendly policies.
Data from the economic registry also showed that the cumulative balance of licenses registered in the UAE’s free zones increased by 23.8 percent over the past year, reflecting steady growth in business activity. this increase indicates a strong demand for free zone opportunities, as companies continue to leverage the advantages these zones offer, including tax incentives and streamlined business operations.
The free zones in Dubai that recorded the highest number of new business licenses included Dubai silicon oasis, Dubai multi commodities center, Meydan, Dubai south, Jebel Ali free zone (Jafza), and Dubai development authority. meanwhile, Ras al Khaimah ranked second in terms of the total cumulative balance of free zone licenses, reaching 47,000 licenses and accounting for 21.5 percent of the country’s total by January 2025.
