India's Uttarakhand State 1St To Use AI For Forest Conservation
The Uttarakhand Forest Department has launched a pilot AI project in the Garhwal Forest Division. Advanced AI tools analyse ecosystem data to inform the development of a 10-year working plan. These plans are crucial for managing Uttarakhand's diverse forests, encompassing tropical forests, temperate woodlands, and alpine meadows.
The AI system provides a more precise understanding of the region's biodiversity, wildlife habitats, and watershed areas. This detailed analysis allows for tailored management recommendations specific to each forest type.
Early results from the pilot project demonstrate AI's ability to deliver detailed insights into forest health. The technology identifies priority species and suggests targeted conservation measures.
Given that forests cover approximately two-thirds of Uttarakhand's landmass, this AI-driven approach is expected to significantly transform forest management across the entire state. The success of the pilot project suggests a potential for widespread adoption of similar AI-powered systems in other regions of India.
