Kuwaiti Gov't Discusses GCC Summit Preparations, Other Issues Of Prominence


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti cabinet discussed on Thursday, during its weekly meeting, the preparations for the upcoming 45th GCC Summit in Kuwait on December first as well as issues of prominence including amendments to law 67/1976 concerning traffic violations and fines.
After the meeting -- chaired by Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Maousherji said that the State of Kuwait would like to welcome leaders of the GCC to the country during the summit.
He expressed the cabinet's wishes for the success of the upcoming grand event, which hopefully meets the expectations and dreams of the people in the region.
Meanwhile, the Minister indicated that upon the desire of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait would be joining the Global Water Organization headquartered in Saudi Arabia and launched upon the initiative of the Saudi leadership.
He affirmed that the cabinet expressed approval of joining the organization as a founding member.
Back to the 45th GCC Summit, he indicated that the cabinet was briefed about Kuwait official delegation to the grand event, which would include:
1- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
2- First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah.
3- Minister of the Amiri Diwan Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.
4- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Maousherji.
5- Minister of Information and Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.
6- Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya.
7- Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan.
8- Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Askar

9- Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economy and Investment Noura Al-Fassam

10- Minister of Oil Tareq Al-Roumi.
The delegation also includes a number of senior officials from the Amiri and Crown Prince Diwans, in addition to Foreign Ministry.
Meanwhile, Minister Al-Maousherji indicated that Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf informed the meeting on the results of the visit he made to Qatar on Tuesday to head Kuwait's delegation to the 21st meeting of the GCC Defense Ministers.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf, said the minister, informed the GCC meeting on Kuwait's eagerness to bolster Gulf defense cooperation during the challenges facing the region, commending at the same time the level of collaboration, which to security and stability of Gulf states.
Minister Al-Maousherji indicated that the cabinet agreed on amending law 67/1976 regarding traffic law violations and fines.
The meeting approved amendments, which increased fines and penalties to those violating traffic regulations including crossing red traffic lights, reckless driving, illegal racing on public roads, exceeding speed limits, and driving wrong side of roads.
A draft law of the amendment would be sent to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for approval.
The minister indicated that Minister Noura Al-Fassam informed the cabinet regarding the monthly report of the national committee to counter money laundering and financing of terror, which included detailed plans for the committee's meetings in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 fiscal years. Minister Al-Fassam also informed the meeting on the committee's report on amending law 106/2013 and its statute.
The cabinet approved the minute of the supreme committee looking into Kuwaiti citizenship, which had therein a number of cases of withdrawing citizenship according to law 15/1959 of the Kuwaiti citizenship and its amendments.
At the end of the meeting, the cabinet expressed sorrow over the death of firefighter Warrant Officer Abdullah Al-Farsi while on duty, wishing solace to the family members of the deceased. (end)
