(MENAFN) Iran's Oil Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, highlighted achievements in increasing unprocessed natural gas production after addressing key challenges in the sector. Speaking at a parliamentary session, Paknejad explained that since the current administration took office in August, the Oil Ministry has identified and tackled bottlenecks in the upstream petroleum industry. As a result, daily raw gas production has risen by over 25 million cubic meters through strategic planning and reforms.
Additionally, the minister noted improvements in refinery outputs. Daily production of Mazut (heavy fuel oil) and diesel fuel has increased by approximately 5 million liters, ensuring sufficient supply to meet the demands of power plants. These developments underscore Iran's efforts to stabilize its energy infrastructure and enhance fuel availability.
Earlier, Mohammad-Reza Jolaei, the director of production coordination and supervision at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), reported that Iranian gas refineries currently produce 840 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas daily. This level of production underscores natural gas's significance, accounting for over 75 percent of Iran’s energy portfolio.
Jolaei further described the role of natural gas refineries as sophisticated industrial complexes. These facilities process sour gas into usable forms for domestic, commercial, industrial, and export purposes. His remarks, delivered during a visit to Ilam Refinery, emphasized the critical function of refineries in supporting Iran's energy and economic goals.
