(MENAFN) After nearly 14 months of conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, remains uncertain about its next steps, allowing the war to continue without a clear end in sight.
Despite the steadfast resistance of Gaza’s people, Israel's proposed solutions, such as tribal rule, the return of the Palestinian Authority, or a U.S.- and Arab-backed civil administration, have failed to materialize. These plans have not prevented Gaza from descending into disorder or falling under the control of mercenaries and war profiteers.
Amid efforts to execute military plans in northern Gaza, a new proposal for a "Hamas-free humanitarian bubble" has emerged. Developed by think tanks close to Israel's ruling Likud party, the plan seeks to isolate Palestinians who do not support Hamas or resistance factions in designated humanitarian zones. These zones would be defined by two transverse lines, with Israeli military control extending over northern Gaza, the eastern border, and the Salah al-Din crossing (Philadelphia).
Former Israeli general Ziv, a key figure in shaping the plan, suggested that Palestinian civilians opposed to Hamas could live in isolated areas close to their homes in northern Gaza, governed by a coalition of the U.S. and Arab countries, while Israel focuses on eliminating Hamas strongholds. Ziv, who previously oversaw Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, proposed that the plan could last up to five years, during which the Palestinian Authority would regain control, and a "demilitarized Hamas" could help govern Gaza.
Researcher Saeed Ziad believes the humanitarian bubble plan is part of a larger Israeli strategy that is already being implemented on the ground. Israeli experts have observed the approach, which aims to create areas free of fighters, enabling the distribution of humanitarian aid through local companies or families cooperating with the occupation.
