Iran expresses commitment to exporting natural gas to Iraq despite maintenance periods
(MENAFN) The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has reaffirmed its commitment to exporting natural gas to Iraq as scheduled, according to a statement from Shana. Gholamreza Koushki, the Head of the NIGC Dispatching Department, confirmed that gas is being exported through two exchange points in the southern and western regions of Iran.
Koushki explained that the volume of gas exports to Iraq is determined by a bilateral agreement based on Iraq's varying needs, which tend to peak in the first half of the year and decrease in the latter half. The agreement allows for adjustments depending on seasonal demand and operational conditions.
A recent agreement between Iran and Iraq resulted in the temporary disconnection of one exchange point for scheduled overhauls. During this maintenance, Iran continued to fulfill its export commitments through the second exchange point. After completing maintenance work on November 24, gas flow was restored to the first station, and the second station was subsequently taken offline for major repairs.
Koushki emphasized that the maintenance schedule and the temporary relocation of export stations were carried out in full coordination with Iraq, ensuring that both parties adhered to the terms of their contractual agreement.
