Displaced Families Begin Returning to Their Homes in Syria’s Afrin

(MENAFN) Around 1,300 displaced families started returning on Thursday to their original homes in Afrin in northern Syria, according to a statement from Hasakah’s media directorate.

The directorate said, “A convoy of about 1,300 families from Afrin who were displaced in Hasakah set off from the city of Qamishli on their way back to their areas,” describing the organized departure of the returnees.

It added that the process was carried out “under the supervision of the presidential team and the Internal Security leadership in Hasakah and Aleppo provinces, and with Syrian Civil Defense teams accompanying them,” according to reports.

Authorities noted that additional return convoys had previously arrived from several regions, particularly from Hasakah province and from the city of Ain al-Arab (Kobani), reflecting a broader pattern of population movement back toward the north.

The returns were described as part of improving stability and security conditions in Syria in recent months. Officials also framed the developments as a humanitarian and national effort aimed at addressing displacement that began during military operations in 2018 to remove the YPG/SDF presence from Afrin.

Separately, the report referenced that on Jan. 30, the Syrian government announced a comprehensive agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), aimed at reducing divisions and moving toward a new phase of political and administrative integration in the country.
