Doha, Qatar: In celebration of Qatar National Day, Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) invites the community to an unforgettable evening of culture, laughter, and tradition today (November 27) from 5pm to 9pm at the GU-Q Oxygen Park entrance.
Headlining the celebration is a live stand-up performance by renowned Qatari comedian and entrepreneur Hamad Al Amari, whose humorous commentary on cultural encounters inspires laughter and reflection.
Hosted by the Office of External Relations in collaboration with the Al Liwan Qatari Cultural Club, the event will offer a dynamic mix of activities, performances, and culinary experiences for all ages.
“We are honored to welcome the community to our annual Qatar National Day celebration,” said Dean Safwan Masri.
“For 20 years, Georgetown has proudly contributed to a legacy built together, and this joyous occasion serves as a tribute to a nation whose vision and ambition have inspired the world.”
According to Khaled Al Yousef, Executive Director of External Relations, the carefully planned activities are designed with families in mind.“Students have worked closely with the Office of External Relations to make this event a welcoming space for their siblings, parents, and extended families to share their culture with other families from across Qatar. We invite the community to join us as we celebrate Qatar's independence, and reaffirm our commitment to honoring the nation's rich heritage while fostering a vibrant and inclusive community.”
Event highlights includes a hilarious performance blending cultural insights with humor to celebrate the spirit of Qatar by Hamad Al Amari; live performances such as the traditional Qatari“Ardha” dance, oud performance, folklore storytelling, and calligraphy demonstrations; guests can enjoy a mix of heritage and contemporary activities, such as traditional games, and hands-on crafts like bracelet-making, palm weaving, and henna; featuring a stunning display of paintings, sculptures, and crafts by local artists, the exhibition will remain open throughout the week, offering attendees an opportunity to purchase unique works of art; and savour traditional Qatari dishes and explore stalls showcasing locally crafted pottery, jewellery, and more, all created by small Qatari-owned businesses. Guests can take away memories from the commemorative photo booth.
This family-friendly celebration is open to the public and offers an excellent opportunity to connect with Qatar's culture and community spirit. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to register at the GU-Q website.
