Azerbaijan, Russia Seek To Tackle Environmental Challenges Facing Caspian Sea (PHOTO)


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. A high-level bilateral meeting was held between Zaur Mikayilov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, and Dmitry Kirillov, Head of the federal Agency for Water Resources of the Russian Federation, Trend reports.

The meeting focused on the adverse effects of global climate change, underscoring the importance of joining forces to tackle transboundary water resources and the need to pull together in addressing environmental issues in the Caspian Sea.

Both parties stressed the need to share knowledge, as it would pave the way for better regional cooperation, spark innovative solutions, and keep the wheels turning for sustainable consumption and protection of water resources.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November 11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by Azerbaijan to date and the first time in the region that it is being held in Azerbaijan.

The key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.

A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29 Chairmanship.
