Western Azerbaijan Community Condemns UNESCO Representative's Stance Regarding Azerbaijan

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 1. The Western Azerbaijan Community strongly condemns and rejects the position of UNESCO representative Krista Pikkat regarding the proposed mission to Azerbaijan, based on Armenia's claims about cultural monuments within the country, the community said in a statement, Trend reports.

"It is unacceptable for a UNESCO representative to entertain unfounded claims from Armenia instead of clarifying why repeated requests to UNESCO to address the mass destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in formerly occupied territories and in Armenia remain unanswered.

Discrimination by UNESCO against the Azerbaijani people based on religious and ethnic grounds demonstrates that this organization has become an instrument of anti-Azerbaijani policy in the hands of France.

We demand that UNESCO put an end to the slander and discrimination against Azerbaijan and our people and finally fulfill its duty regarding the destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage by Armenia, including sending a special monitoring mission to this country," the statement reads.
