Amman, July 30 (Petra) -- Minister of government Communication, Muhannad Mubaideen, said that the state has provided full support for the Political modernization project. He emphasized the importance of youth participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Speaking to a seminar held Tuesday at the University of Jordan entitled "Political Modernization in the Reign of his majesty King Abdullah II," as part of the Jerash Festival, Mubaideen said that the next parliament will be different, as there will be 41 MPs elected from party lists, a number that will gradually increase in future parliaments to reach 65 percent of the members of the House of Representatives, in addition to the requirement that the general lists of parties wishing to run in the elections contain a woman and a young man in the first ranks of these lists.
Mubaideen, who is also the government spokesperson, added that the political modernization project is still in its infancy, as parties have been formed and will run for the upcoming elections on a programmatic basis that serves society in all fields, pointing out that mistakes may occur in all democracies of the world and that there are global models in this regard.
Mubaideen also stressed that universities have encouraged young people to join parties and participate in political life based on regulating student party activities in higher education institutions bylaw, indicating that a number of universities have held student elections as a miniature model that simulates the experience of the upcoming elections.
