Egypt's Al-Mashat Joins G20 Development Ministers' Meeting In Brazil
This event, held in Rio de Janeiro, is part of the broader G20 activities leading up to the G20 Leaders Summit scheduled for November 2024.
The G20 Summit in Brazil is centred on the theme“Building a Just World & Sustainable Planet.” Under the Brazilian presidency, the G20 is focusing on social integration, reducing hunger and poverty rates, transforming the energy sector for sustainable development, and reforming international institutions.
The meetings feature participation from G20 members, the African Union, the European Union, and representatives from numerous other countries and governments.
Al-Mashat will represent Egypt in the G20 Development Working Group.
The group's key objectives include discussions on social integration, reducing inequality, investments in water as a key driver of economic development, enhancing sustainable development goals, fostering tripartite cooperation, and addressing barriers hindering developing countries' efforts toward achieving development.
Throughout the summit, held from July 22 to 26, Al-Mashat will engage in various events, including bilateral meetings with development partners, international institutions, and governments. These engagements aim to strengthen cooperation and discuss strategies for addressing global economic issues, the climate crisis, and debt challenges facing developing and emerging countries, as well as efforts to reform and develop multilateral development banks.
The G20, comprising the world's 20 largest economies, was established in 1999. It convenes annually in member countries to discuss current economic and financial issues, propose solutions to financial and geopolitical challenges, and address other issues hindering global development efforts.
