Global IT Outage Affects Services In S. Korea, UK
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
TOKYO, July 19 (KUNA) -- Some low-cost airlines in South Korea saw problems with booking or issuing air tickets Friday, in an apparent IT disruption that affected the global airline and financial sectors, the Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency reported.
The cyber outage affected the airport ticketing of Jeju Air Co., Eastar Jet Co. and Air Premia Inc., according to the report. Currently, employees of the three airlines are conducting check-ins by hand, adding that the three airlines have used computer systems based on Microsoft's cloud service.
The report also said some online game companies in South Korea were affected by the IT outage. IT authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation for any disruptions in local services using Microsoft's cloud services.
Meanwhile, general practitioners, pharmacies and airports are among the UK services that have been affected by the global IT outage, BBC reported.
Some GP practices are struggling to access their records systems, which include online bookings.
There have also been long queues at airports and train services have also faced disruption because of a major problem with computer systems.
Some TV channels have been knocked off air, and stores such as supermarket Morrisons and bakery chain Gailآ's say they have had problems with payments.
Problems started to emerge early on Friday when a number of businesses began to report IT problems. Several firms have said the problems are due to a Crowdstrike cybersecurity software issue.
Crowdstrike firm says global tech disruptions not due to security incident or cyber-attack.
An NHS England spokesperson said: "The NHS is aware of a global IT outage and an issue with EMIS, an appointment and patient record system, which is causing disruption in the majority of GP practices."
Long queues have been reported at airports, and Ryanair has said it is experiencing "potential disruptions" across its network.
The UKآ's largest airport, Heathrow, said the outage was affecting "select systems," and that flights are operational and "we are implementing contingency plans to minimise any impact on journeys". (pick up previous)
