French Police Illegally Arrest Members Of Pro-Independence Movements - Baku Initiative Group


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17. Members of pro-independence movements were illegally arrested by French police during the recent riots in New Caledonia, Head of the Baku Initiative Group Abbas Abbasov said, Trend reports.

He made the remark during the first congress held in Baku with the participation of leaders of more than 15 Political parties and movements for the independence of Corsica, Melanesia, and Polynesia, a group of Caribbean and Antilles islands suffering from French colonialism.

“They were treated as terrorists and smuggled to Paris where they were subjected to various tortures. There are women with small children among them. Baku Initiative Group states that it will help the families of political prisoners and the lawyers who defend them. The families of some of these political prisoners are taking part in our event today,” he said.

To note, the Baku Initiative Group was established on July 6, 2023, in Baku by the participants of the conference "Total Elimination of Colonialism" within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement under the chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Baku Initiative Group has already organized about 15 international conferences.
