Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities reports more than half tourists are Arabs

(MENAFN) The Ministry of tourism and Antiquities has reported that nationals from Arabic countries constituted 53.2percent of the total visitors to Jordan during the first half of this year. The overall number of international visitors to Jordan during this period was about 2.786 million, compared to 3.025 million in the same period last year, marking an 8percent decline.

According to ministerial data reviewed by Al-Ghad, the influx of tourists from Arabic countries reached approximately 1.483 million in the first half of this year. This represents a 7.7percent increase, or an additional 107,000 visitors, compared to 1.376 million visitors during the same period last year. Additionally, the number of Jordanian expatriates visiting the Kingdom rose to 791,000 during the first half of this year, compared to 715,000 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 10.6percent, equating to more than 76,000 additional expatriates.

Expatriate visitors accounted for roughly 28.3percent of all visitors to Jordan in the first half of this year.

However, the data also shows a significant decline in visitors from European countries, with numbers falling by about 31.5percent in the first half of this year to 316,100 visitors, down from 461,800 in the same period last year. European visitors constituted about 11.3percent of the total number of visitors to Jordan.

The number of visitors from various Asian countries also saw a sharp decrease of 48.9percent during the first half of this year, dropping to 97,000 from 190,300 in the same period last year. Asian visitors made up 3.4percent of the total international visitors to Jordan during this time.

Additionally, visitors from the Americas experienced a steep decline of 55.3percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, with their numbers falling to approximately 173,700.

These statistics highlight significant changes in Jordan's tourism demographics. While there has been an increase in visitors from Arabic countries and Jordanian expatriates, there has been a notable decline in visitors from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
