New York: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) called for 'independent investigations' into the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) bombing of a UNRWA school housing 2,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

Commissioner-General of the UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini posted on his official account on the social media platform "X": "More than half of UNRWA facilities have been hit. 520 people were killed and nearly 1,600 were injured. Those responsible must be held accountable for violating international law."

"Nine months on this brutal war, I call once again for a ceasefire. The longer this war goes on, the deeper the rift will become, and the more suffering people will endure", Lazzarini added.

The IOF continued their aggression against the Gaza Strip by land, sea and air since October 7, 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of 38,153 citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 87,828 others. Thousands of victims remain under rubble and on the roads, where ambulance and civil defense crews are unable to reach them.
