Dems Affirm Support To Biden After Debate Bad Performance
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
WASHINGTON, July 4 (KUNA) -- A small group of Democratic governors affirmed their support for President Joe Biden following a White House meeting with the president on Wednesday amid growing Democratic calls for him to drop out of the race.
"The feedback was, we are all looking for the path to win. All the governors agree with that, President Biden agreed with that," said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, speaking outside of the White House with New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
Walz noted that Biden has had the governor's backs through the coronavirus pandemic and "the governors have his back.
"A path to victory in November is the number one priority and that's the number one priority of the president," he continued.
Walz responded "yes" when asked by a reporter if Biden is fit for office, acknowledging that Thursday's debate was a "bad performance."
Three Democratic governors who met with President Biden Wednesday night in the wake of his debate performance said they continue to back him, as the president himself said in a fundraising email Wednesday that he's "not leaving" the race.
The developments Wednesday came as speculation about Biden's future as the Democratic nominee continues to grow following last week's presidential debate.
"I'm the Democratic Party's nominee. No one is pushing me out. I'm not leaving," the email said. "I'm in this race to the end, and WE are going to win this election."
