Morocco's tourism sector displays resilience with moderate revenue growth

(MENAFN) Morocco's tourism revenues for the first five months of 2024 increased by 1.6 percent, reaching USD4.13 billion, according to statements from the country's tourism ministry. Minister Fatima Zahra Ammor highlighted that this growth aligns with the ministry's expectations for the ongoing year, underscoring the sector's steady progress despite global challenges.

Ammor emphasized the importance of sustained efforts among stakeholders, urging collaboration with industry professionals and partners to enhance tourism experiences. She stressed the need to develop high-quality offerings that attract visitors and generate income, while also advocating for increased engagement in local tourism experiences to benefit local communities.

Morocco aims to revitalize its tourism sector, aiming to attract 26 million tourists annually by 2030. Tourism currently stands as the second largest source of foreign exchange for the country, following remittances from Moroccans living abroad, which totaled nearly USD11.5 billion in 2023 according to data from the Kingdom’s Exchange Office.

The tourism sector in Morocco has shown consistent growth, achieving a milestone in 2023 with revenues surpassing USD10 billion for the first time, fueled by the arrival of 14.5 million tourists. The ministry's efforts to sustain this upward trajectory reflect a strategic approach to bolstering Morocco's position as a leading destination in the global tourism market.
