Italian Energy Firm Appoints Global Communications Head

MILAN - After 16 years leading communications at Italian energy giant Enel Group, João Duarte has been appointed as global head of communications at electricity producer ContourGlobal, with a brief to support the firm's transition to renewable energy.
In his new role, Duarte will oversee corporate communications, brand strategy, media relations, digital and employee engagement at ContourGlobal, which operates in 18 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America and has a market cap of $1.98 billion. It currently has a renewables capacity of 27%, with plans to speed up the decarbonisation of its business and develop new renewables projects.
During Duarte's tenure at Enel, he oversaw the global and regional communications functions, led the global rebranding of the group, and spearheaded communications for the power distribution business line globally, as well as leading communication and brand strategies for spin-off B2B company, Gridspertise.
Duarte, who will report to ContourGlobal president and CEO Antonio Cammisecra, said:“ContourGlobal is embarking on a transformative journey with an ambitious growth plan in renewables during this decisive decade for climate action.
“As renewables become mainstream and investment flows continue to shift from fossil fuels to clean tech, the ContourGlobal brand will demonstrate that achieving Net Zero is not only feasible but also a sustainable commercial and industrial pathway”.
Duarte was the first executive officer of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management in 2007, and is a member of FERPILab, the think tank of the Italian Public Relations Federation. He was named by PRovoke as one of the 25 most influential communication innovators for the EMEA region in 2021.
