On the same day, iconic Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar added another feather to his cap by completing 15,000 runs in his ODI career. With this, Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman in the history of cricket to register 15,000 ODI runs.

Fourteen years ago, on this day, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar earned the title of becoming the first batsman in cricket history to register 15,000 ODI runs. Tendulkar achieved this milestone against India's match against South Africa a Belfast in the second ODI of the three-match series. Team India was chasing 227 runs for the win. It was at that time that Tendulkar entered the game and opened the batting for India. he went on to play a knock of 93 runs from 106 balls reach the 15,000 run mark in 50-over cricket.

To honour the contribution of PC Mahalonobis, the Government of India declared June 29 as National Statistics Day in 2007.
