'Reconstruction Of All Jalalabad Dilapidated Roads Kicks Off'


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The reconstruction work of all main and sub roads in Jalalabad City, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, have started at the cost of 273 million afs, an official has said.

Jalalabad Municipality Spokesman Bakhti Jan Murad told Pajhwok Afghan News, most of the roads in Jalalabad city were asphalted and reconstructed two decades ago, however some of its broken parts were repaired but most of the roads were damaged again.

A project worth 273 million Afs for the reconstruction of major and small roads of the city was approved recently to repair all of the 27 kilometer long damaged roads in Jalalabad city, he said.

Murad explained:“The project not included the asphalting of roads but the installation of flowers vases on road sides, lighting system, roadsides and damaged sewage system.”

According to Murad's, the project started recently, some parts of the damaged roads were already repaired while the work over some other parts was ongoing.

The total cost this project was 273 million Afs and it would be completed in six months which would bring positive changes in the image of the city.

The step was hailed by some residents and drivers of Jalalabad city.

Agha Jan, a resident of the Mastofiat area of the city told Pajhwok that the road in that area was damaged badly, water ponds were created during rainy times which caused a lot of losses for the drivers, as the road was asphalted now, many problems have been resolved.

A rickshaw driver Waliullah said that most part of the roads in Jalalabad city were partially destroyed the Municipality repaired them with after a short time they were damaged again. Such bumpy and damaged roads caused a lot of losses for rickshaws and other vehicles, he said.

Waliullah is thrilled about the work over the damaged parts of the roads; he believed that their vehicles would be protected from receiving more damages.

However some other residents of Jalalabad asked for government to speed up the reconstruction work of the damaged roads, they suggested night shift work also.

A shopkeeper Awal Khan called for the acceleration of the reconstruction work, he suggested to the government night shift work because the day-shift work created a sort of inconvenience for the people.

But Murad said that efforts were underway to accelerate the works in a manner which did not cause losses to the people and waste in their time.

It is worth mentioning that most of the roads in Jalalabad city were reconstructed about two decades ago but now most parts of these roads have been damaged which needed reconstruction.
