Volunteer Who Fought For Ukraine Arrested In Switzerland

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Swiss citizen Jona Neidhart, who fought against Russian invaders on the side of Ukraine for two years, has been arrested in Bern.

That's according to radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty , which refers to the Swiss news outlet Blick .

Neidhart voluntarily surrendered to the Swiss Police on June 14 in order to draw attention to Ukraine during the Peace Summit in Switzerland, which began on June 15.

According to Neidhart, the summit should not be taken seriously, but Ukraine should be given the opportunity to win the war.

"Anyone who really wants to help Ukraine must enable it to defeat the Russians militarily. You must break the Russians first before you negotiate with them, not the other way around," he said.

Neidhart slammed his country's government for extremely limited aid to Ukraine.

In Switzerland, according to the law, he faces up to three years in prison for serving in a foreign army.

With the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, the native of Zurich joined the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine and took part in combat operations in the Donbas and Kharkiv region, including in the counteroffensive and the liberation of Ukrainian lands.

Neidhart is the only one who publicly declared his service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A dozen Swiss volunteers are fighting on the side of Ukraine.
