Rupert Murdoch ties knot with Russian scientist

(MENAFN) media mogul Rupert Murdoch, aged 93, exchanged vows with retired Soviet-born molecular biologist Elena Zhukova on Saturday at his vineyard estate in Bel Air, Westside Los Angeles. The wedding marks Murdoch's fifth marriage and follows his engagement announcement with Zhukova in March, with the couple initially keeping a low profile during the early stages of their relationship.

Reports suggest that Murdoch met his 67-year-old bride through mutual connections, including Zhukova's daughter Daria Zhukova, who is a close friend of Murdoch's third wife, Wendi Deng. Zhukova, who previously studied insulin production and diabetes at UCLA, was previously married to Russian billionaire Alexander Zhukov, with whom she shares a daughter, Daria, who was formerly married to Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire and former owner of Chelsea FC.

This union comes shortly after Murdoch's called-off engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, a retired dental hygienist turned conservative radio host. Murdoch, whose family boasts a net worth of approximately USD20 billion, retired from the boards of Fox and News Corp in September, passing the reins of his media empire to his son Lachlan.

News Corp, under Murdoch's leadership, has become a dominant force in the media industry, owning prominent outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The Times, The Sun, Fox News, and Sky News Australia. The marriage to Zhukova adds a new chapter to Murdoch's personal life, complementing his extensive professional achievements over the past seven decades.
