Armenians Leave Azerbaijan's Karabakh Not Due To Peacekeepers' Inaction - Russian FM


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. It would beincorrect to argue that Armenians left Karabakh due to thepassivity of Russian peacekeepers, said Russian Foreign MinisterSergey Lavrov during an interview with Russian media, Trend reports.

"The treaty recognizing Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan did notmention any specific rights for the region's Armenian minority, it is wrong to blame the departure of Armenians from Karabakhonly on the inaction of Russian peacekeepers," he said.

On April 16, social media leaked footage indicating thewithdrawal of Russian peacekeeping contingent military equipmentfrom Azerbaijan, but no official remarks were published on thesubject.

On April 10, Russian peacekeepers left the Khudavang monasterycomplex in Kalbajar, which is now under the protection ofAzerbaijani police.

Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov confirmed thewithdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers from Karabakh on April17.
